FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything we get asked the most, in one place. If we missed something, the contact email is at the bottom — we read every note.

The product

What's in the bag, who it's for, what to expect.

What is barnyard millet?

Barnyard millet is an ancient small grain that's been cultivated for around nine thousand years across parts of Asia and Africa. It's naturally gluten-free, rich in iron and fiber, and one of the most drought-resilient grains on earth.

It looks a little like a small bead of rice when raw. When it's baked and puffed, it crisps up into a light, crunchy little nugget — what you're holding when you open a LOKA bag.

What's actually in a LOKA bag?

Three ingredients. That's the whole panel:

Barnyard millet · Extra-virgin olive oil · Pink Himalayan salt.

No maltodextrin. No "natural flavor." No seed-oil blend. No malic acid, no disodium anything, no preservatives.

Is it gluten-free?

Yes. Barnyard millet is naturally gluten-free. We're in the process of obtaining formal certification from the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), which should be on retail bags at launch.

What about allergens?

The puff itself contains no dairy, nuts, peanuts, soy, eggs, or wheat. It is produced in a facility that handles some of these ingredients on other lines, and we'll disclose that on every retail bag for households with severe allergies.

How many calories per bag?

Our 3 oz bag has approximately 350 calories total, or roughly 120 calories per 1 oz serving (about three handfuls). Macros land at around 4g protein, 4g fat, 22g carbs, 2g fiber per serving.

Final nutrition panel will be on the printed bag — these numbers are based on current formulation testing and may move by ±5%.

How spicy is it?

Not at all. The bag is just millet, olive oil, and a touch of pink Himalayan salt. No pepper, no chili, no capsaicin. Kid-safe down to about age three (use judgment for younger).

Future flavored SKUs may add spice — we'll always label it clearly when they do.

Is it kid-friendly?

Designed for it. The puff is soft enough to bite without effort, mild enough that picky eaters tend to like it, and the bag fits in a standard kid's lunchbox. We've been testing with parents specifically for this.

The beta

How the 200-household program works.

When does the beta start?

We're aiming to start shipping beta kits in summer 2026. Exact ship dates depend on final formulation testing and co-pack scheduling — we'll email everyone on the waitlist about two weeks before the first kits go out.

Who can join?

Anyone with a US shipping address. We balance our picks across geography, household type (parents vs. adults vs. creators), and palate so we get useful feedback — but if you have a US address, you can sign up.

How are you picking 200 households?

We balance the cohort across four dimensions: geography (we want every region represented), household type (parents with kids 5–12 are about half the picks), palate (mild eaters and adventurous eaters), and media reach (some creator/influencer spots so we can get the product seen).

Signing up early helps. Signing up doesn't guarantee a kit.

What do beta households get?

Three 3oz bags of LOKA Millet Puffs, shipped to your door, free. Plus a printed note from the founder. Plus first access to retail launch news, including invite codes for the public DTC pre-order.

What do you want from beta households?

One ten-minute survey after you've finished a bag. That's the whole ask. If you'd like to do a quick 15-minute video call with the founder, that's an opt-in — and a few people every cohort end up doing it. Otherwise, just the survey.

What if I sign up and don't get picked?

You stay on the launch waitlist. When LOKA goes public (DTC first, then retail), you get an early invite code with first-look pricing. Beta non-picks don't get cut from communications — they just don't get the free three-bag kit.

Shipping & launch

When this hits the world.

When does LOKA actually launch?

DTC and Amazon are targeted for late summer 2026, right after the beta cohort wraps. Specialty retail (Sprouts, Erewhon, Foxtrot) follows in the second half of 2026. National retail rollout — Target, Whole Foods, Walmart — moves through 2027.

Will it ship to my state?

Yes — we'll ship to all 50 US states, including Alaska and Hawaii (extended timeline). No international shipping at launch; that's a 2027 conversation.

Where will it be in retail stores?

Our specialty retail launch targets are Sprouts (national set-in), Whole Foods (regional rollout), Erewhon, Foxtrot, and Wegmans in the Northeast. Mass retail (Target Tabletop, Costco roadshow, Walmart pilot) follows once specialty velocity is established.

Beta households get email updates whenever a new retailer goes live.

Will I be able to buy it on Amazon at launch?

Yes. Amazon is part of the launch in late summer 2026 — fulfilled by Amazon (FBA), with Subscribe & Save enabled at launch. Expect a 6-pack and a 3-pack as the launch SKUs there.

The company

Who's behind LOKA and where it's made.

Where is LOKA made?

Co-packed in the United States Midwest, on a gluten-free certified line. Ingredients are sourced from US small-grain cooperatives (millet), Spain (extra-virgin olive oil), and Pakistan (pink Himalayan salt — there is only one place this salt comes from). Everything assembled, baked, and packaged in the USA.

Who's behind LOKA?

LOKA is founded and run by a small team based in the United States. We're intentionally lean — fewer people, more focus, more time spent on the product. We'll introduce the full team on the site at retail launch.

How can I contact you?

For general inquiries: hello@loka.snacks. For press: press@loka.snacks. For retailer/wholesale inquiries, please see our For Retailers page.

We respond to every email. Beta households get answers within 24 hours.

Are you hiring?

Always open to talking to operators with real CPG scars — growth, retail, supply, food science. If that's you, send a note to hello@loka.snacks with what you've shipped before. No formal roles posted right now.
